Dr Marshall is one of the founding directors of Margules Groome. He has a PhD in Forest Engineering, as well as a Master of Forestry from Oregon State University, USA.
He has built a career in research and consulting with a strong interest in operational issues, and has been involved in carrying out annual valuation and due diligence projects for some of the largest forest estates in the Asia Pacific region. These projects have involved a diverse range of plantations including radiata pine, Douglas fir, eucalyptus, acacia and sandalwood.
The wide variety of projects that Dr Marshall has been involved in, including harvesting research, LiDAR, yield and carbon modelling, small- and large-scale valuations, means that he has a good appreciation of the log prices, forestry costs and issues facing the forest industry as well as an extensive network of contacts. He specialises in forestry resource inventory and growth and yield assessments, as well as wood flow modelling, GIS and mapping. He has project managed a number of large forest valuation projects as well as government database and software development projects in New Zealand and Australia.
